F_shake

After running errands, we stopped by Wendy’s on the way home for a little treat... a Frosty Shake. I had seen the commercials on television and the shakes looked so creamy and refreshing. I tried the Strawberry version made with real strawberry sauce, while my husband tried the Vanilla Bean flavor. Yum... the perfect summer indulgence!

Hb_promo

Tucked into the pages of this week's issue of Newsweek was this clever promotional piece for Häagen-Dazs. The sheet is filled with bee-friendly wildflower seeds to plant and provide food to feed the honey bees and keep them buzzing.

There is also a beautifully-designed website at helpthehoneybees.com to learn more about the plight of the honey bees... you can even design and send your own animated honey bee. Isn’t mine cute?

I also want to try the new Vanilla Honey Bee ice cream made from vanilla from Madagascar and honey from the clover fields of North and South Dakota. Anything to help save the honey bees and keep them pollinating!

Trophy_cupcakes1Trophy_cupcakes2 Finally got a chance to stop by Trophy Cupcakes and Party this weekend and sampled the lemon, chocolate vanilla, and triple chocolate cupcakes. Not only are these freshly baked treats delicious, but they are also beautifully presented. I need to try and remember to stop by on a Tuesday or Thursday because I really want to try a Peanut Butter & Jelly cupcake! Yum!

C_chowder

Happy Memorial Day! Spent today running errands... woke up early and headed over to Ikea for their tax-free Memorial Day sale. We got there right after the store opened and the aisles were already packed with people! Luckily, we knew exactly what we wanted... a new bookcase for my new craft studio area... my summer project. While we were there, we also picked up other goodies, including storage baskets for the bookshelf and a spöka nightlight for late night kitchen raids in green (we already have one for the bedroom in blue). After Ikea, we stopped by Salty’s for chowder and fries. Yum! This long weekend has been so relaxing that I am definitely not in a rush to go back to the office tomorrow.

Am_nordstrom

I met one of my friends for lunch today at the television station where we used to work togther. She still works there and it gave me a chance to see some of my old coworkers and catch up with them.

We then headed over to Ala Moana Center for lunch at the new Nordstrom Cafe to share a blue cheese and pear salad and margherita pizza. I have to come back to try the kalua pork and lomi tomato pizza. Yum! After lunch, we spent another hour or so shopping and talking story. We email each other at least once a week, but it is always so much nicer to be able to get together in person!

Baked_brie Probably not the healthiest dinner... but when I went to Trader Joe’s after work today they were offering samples of Cantaré baked brie en croute. The warm cheese wrapped in the baked brioche dough was such a delicious treat after a long day at the office that we decided to pick one up for dinner. We brought home the cranberry, apricot, almond, and brandy baked version, but there were so many other yummy flavor varieties that I can’t wait to try.

Zesty_garlic_taro_chipsI know I just blogged about how I am trying to eat healthier this year, but I am so addicted to these Zesty Garlic Taro Chips. Luckily they are only sold in Hawaii or online, so I have to wait for a care package from my parents or online order to arrive to get my hands on more of these chips. I was checking out the Hawaiian Chip Company website and discovered that their chips come in a number of flavors and combinations, from original taro and sweet potato, to versions with garlic or kiawe barbeque, and there's even one with habanero pepper. Yum, yum, yum!

Mini_frittatasOne of my New Year’s resolutions was to eat a little healthier and I am simply drooling over the delicious recipes included so far in the Month of 100-Calorie-or-Less Snacks on myrecipes.com. All of the easy recipes look and sound so much more yummy than those prepackaged 100 calorie packs from Nabisco. Not that I don’t find myself indulging in those every so often!

Spa_spaghettiCaught a new episode of Everyday Italian last night and really want to try all of the recipes. The Spa Weekend Brought Home episode featured Whole-Wheat Spaghetti with Lemon, Basil, and Salmon; Pork Chops Stuffed with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Spinach; and Artichoke and Tomato Panzanella. The spaghetti looked especially delicious with all the ingredients I enjoy -- pasta, lemon, basil, and salmon. Yum... I am getting hungry just thinking about it!

Hillside_hot_cocoa I spotted these OnTech self heating drinks yesterday while out shopping and tossed the hot cocoa rich chocolate with marshmallows version in my cart to try this morning at the office. The instructions to activate the self-heating mechanism are easy to follow and the beverage is delicious and just the right temperature. I noticed on their website that in addition to hot chocolate (with or without marshmallows), the company also produces coffee, tea, and soup. I wouldn’t mind picking up some of the soups to keep on hand at my desk for those days when I can’t get away for lunch. I'll have to remember to look for the other versions when I am out and about at the store.
